A less-expensive model joins the 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid lineup.

Pros:
  • Real-world gas mileage in the high 20s, swift acceleration, smooth ride, high crash test scores, comfortable cabin with simple controls and solid materials.
Cons:
  • Expensive, added weight of hybrid mechanicals results in so-so handling, engine can be noisy, poor access to third-row seat.

  • Love this car - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Over priced when new. Heavy but very comfortable. Between engine and electric motors 0-60 is very fast. Wish it ran more on the electric side.

  • Great Mileage SUV/CUV - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

I needed a good mileage vehicle to pull my Boston Whaler after running a small CUV with decent mileage. Every car and pickup I looked at would get 20 mpg or less a few maybe low 20s when not pulling a boat and as 98% of the time Im not pulling a boat this was not a good option to go from 24 mpg average daily driving to <20mpg. I found this Highlander and now get 26-27 mpg average and easily can pull and launch my boat and when doing so get 21 or more mpg. All this in luxury.

  • Excellent car except for start battery - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

I use this car for everything including towing a 2,000 lb Casita trailer. I have driven several times the length of Baja California with the trailer. The car tows the trailer very well, and there is plenty of power for towing on steep, prolonged mountain passes or for passing. You hardly know the trailer is there. Towing or not, the car consistently gets several MPG better than my former Honda 2004 Odyssey. However, note that MPG GOES DOWN VERY FAST AS YOU INCREASE HIGHWAY SPEED OVER 65 MPH, as you would expect due to wind/tire resistance. The car handles extremely well, great suspension. The only problem encountered is with the small start battery, which frequently goes dead.

  • Mileage Meter Calibration? - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

We have enjoyed our hybrid for 2.5 years and consistently score 22.6 MPG. It doesnt seem to matter how we drive, or if we are towing our RV or not, always the same: 22.6 MPG. Can this be accurate? Of course this mileage is great when towing the RV, but the next tank, without the RV in tow, is EXACTLY the same. How could this be statistically possible? We reset the counter on every tank. Otherwise, we love the car.

  • Disappointing - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

The best thing about this car is the drive train. Interior is awful starting with the electronics. No tire pressure monitor, no satellite radio, no backup camera. Nav system is primitive. Dash is out of the early 1990s. No two zone climate control and silly 3rd row seats. Toyota blew it, this could have been an awesome vehicle.

The reason we chose this car over the Lexus SUV hybrid was the cargo size. The nav system is primitive and not user friendly, works sort of, the passenger seat doesnt have adjustable lumbar support so on long trips gets tiresome. The good part is fuel efficiency and room for all kinds of stuff including kids, pets, groceries, plants and necessities of life especially on long trips. The third seat is a waste in my opinion. For our particular needs, the car fits the bill. Of all the hybrids out there with cargo room this is in my view the best choice and nicely appointed.

  • OK Car - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

This SUV is just OK. It really gets about 22 mpg. Its nothing special and really overpriced. I may be a bit prejudiced because I also have a 2004 Prius and was expecting much better gas mileage.

  • 2007 Highlander Hybrid First 500 Miles - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Getting 25 MPG and enjoying the car alot. Good power and quiet. Only mfg. problems so far is the one of the rear seats is locked in the up position preventing a flat cargo area. I am sure the dealer can fix it.

  • First Hybrid -- not the last - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

We bought the Toyota HH 2007 just before the tax credits reduced and are very happy with our choice. The HH is fun to drive and very functional. So far we love it.

  • Women should be aware of reliability - 2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

The battery in this car is not sufficient. The battery dies after being left for 5+ days. Always have to get a jump when left at the airport (dark at night in the parking lot). Battery died in an under ground parking lot when I got in, turned int.lights on and tried to put my next destination into the GPS.Did not have enough juice to turn over the engine. Last time I was in the pouring rain at a track meet and within 5 minutes having the radio going and the heater on, the car just powered down. Left stranded again. I am now scarred to drive this car as being stranded is always in the back of my mind. I have to park with the front facing out on trips, beg shuttle guy to give boost when let out
